Technology Integration Interview with Cyndi Danner-Kuhn, Kansas State University

I had the great pleasure of interviewing Cyndi Danner-Kuhn last week at her office on the campus of Kansas State University. She has a passion for technology integration in all facets of education. Currently she teaches a required tech integration course for all undergraduate education majors and also assists K-State faculty in tech integration in the classroom. I hope you enjoy my interview as much as I did!

  1. Hi Rebecca,
Great interview! I really enjoyed listening to Cyndi and her can- do attitude. I work with a lot of laggards and they fight new technology all the time. It can be quite frustrating as I really enjoy learning and using new technologies. Cyndi mentioned you used imovie to complete the interview. Did you use your ipad? I wish I used that program. Instead, I used moviemaker and my final product looks/sounds like something that was created in the 80’s. This is why I love these blogs – I love getting ideas from my classmates. I’ve learned so much from this class! Again, great job!

    1. Hi Karen!
Yes I did use my iPad! It was very easy to edit and add the titles etc.. And my 13 yr old daughter was able to help when I needed it! ;) I did have issues getting it off my iPad, but I now know how to conquer this problem if it occurs again! Cyndi was quite knowledgeable and very easy to talk to! It was a lot of fun!

  2. Hi Rebecca,
I absolutely LOVED your interview! The effects are great, the callouts are fantastic, the title banners are cute, and I loved the colorful transitions. The content of your interview is fantastic and it is presented in a way that is easy to follow, easy to hear, easy to understand. Your interviewee is wonderful, she seems very knowledgeable about technology and its integration into education and the points she makes are right on target. I very much enjoyed the casual, natural, and comfortable nature of your interview and the editing is fantastic. I also thought it was cool that you created this interview using the technology your interview showcased. You set the bar really high with this assignment and I am eating your dust!

  4. Rebecca,
I really enjoyed your interview. It was apparent that both of you were comfortable with the interaction and that she was happy to share her knowledge about technology. I think the idea of making iPad's mandatory is brilliant, since most college students already own either that or a tablet of some sort already. Good work!

    1. Thank you Wendy! I had a great time during my interview! Cyndi is a walking talking technology encyclopedia! I also agree with the iPad requirement! It would be great to use technology in all classes that is relevant to the "real" world!

  5. Rebecca:

You selected an excellent candidate for your multimedia interview project! I really enjoyed listening to this interview!

I do not currently own an iPad and I really enjoyed learning from Cyndi Danner-Kuhn on how this technology is utilized in adult education. Prior to viewing your interview, I was not aware that iPads are an undergraduate requirement. I find it interesting to learn how common iPads are in adult education, especially since not compatible to Microsoft Windows software.

Were there any ideas that surprised you about your interview with Cyndi Danner-Kuhn?

  6. Great interview Rebecca! I too was unaware that iPads are required on the undergrad level. This technology is already so popular with students that it seems only natural to utilize it in the learning environment.

  7. Oh my goodness, Rebecca!!! This was such an amazing interview. It was so informative. I had no idea that on the K-12 level, the iPad was so popular. Also, the fact that these young students were previously carrying around 26lbs worth of books. That was just absolutely ridiculous. That kind of weight would definitely lead to them having serious back problems in their later adult years.

Interview points which I found very interesting:
    * Purchase of textbook: Significant savings - cost $100-150.00; instead of $700.00. I can get on board with that price.
    * Needed new pedagogical approach: Professor Danner-Kuhn said teachers are going to have to step up their game in engaging students and promoting active learning.
    * iPad usage: Type papers; do a presentation; make a spreadsheet; organize and store photos; journaling; make a movie; create sticky notes and flashcards.

Thank you so much for this great interview. I really enjoyed listening to it.

    ~Aja
